The coherence graph

The coherence graph shows how the selected lane combines with its phase anchor, frequency by frequency, before and after correction.

The anchor is normally the group Phase Reference. In an alignment chain it can be the processed Time Reference that the lane follows.

Reading the graph

The horizontal axis runs from low to high frequency. Values run from -1 to +1:

  • Values toward +1 indicate that the tracks reinforce each other at that frequency.
  • Values near 0 indicate a weak or inconsistent relationship.
  • Negative values indicate opposition and a greater chance of cancellation when the tracks are combined.

The legend names the two curves: RAW, in orange, is the uncorrected relationship, and CORRECTED, in green, is the result with PhaseLock’s correction applied. They pair with the BEFORE and AFTER summary values.

The summary values

  • Before: broadband signed coherence before correction.
  • After: broadband signed coherence after correction.
  • Delta: the change from Before to After.

A higher After value can support a decision, but it is not a target to maximize at any cost. Listen for the balance, weight, transient shape, and space you want in the mix.

Tips

  • Use the graph to find the frequency regions where cancellation was reduced, then confirm by listening at a matched monitor level.
  • If the Before curve already sits near +1 across the range, there is little for the all-pass correction to do. A small Delta on such a lane is normal, not a failure.
